This is the fifth week Mr Aji taught the students of
PTI Offering D in English Engineering lesson. This meeting is the schedule for
all students to perform retelling of Malam Satu Suro movie. The rules are
almost the same as retelling of Lion King movie in previous weeks, but there is
little difference in doing translation. In previous weeks, the first student
told the story in English and another student translated it into Indonesian.
But in this fifth meeting, the first student had to tell the story in Indonesian
and the other student translated it into English.
Mr. Aji divided the class into two large groups,
namely group A and group B. Each large group contained 9 small groups (which
consisting of two students). In each large group, Mr aji asked the students to
close their eyes, then thought about one of the numbers from one to nine. If
they were already thought about the number, they could opened their eyes and raised
their hand, then one member of the small group said the number. But the numbers
have spoken, could not be spoken again by another small group.
So now each small group had a number. Mr aji wrote
numbers randomly in a table that contained a column of group A and a column of
group B. And then, the group who had a number written on the board should
presented about their story of Malam Satu Suro movie in front of another
students.
Iqbal and his friend Ilham, were in group B and had
the number 8. So, they would presented if Mr Aji wrote number 8 in a column of
group B. Incidentally, they got the last turn to present their story about
Malam Satu Suro. They looked impatient to wait their turn. After a long wait,
Mr aji finally wrote number owned by their group. Then immediately, they came
forward and continued the story from the previous group. The story they told is
when Suzanna with her daughter scared “bakpao” seller. After Ilham told the
story in Indonesian, Iqbal looked so confused when he tried to translate word
“bakpao” into English, and then he just says “bakpao”. Some students laughed at
them. Another students also didn’t know what the meaning of “bakpao” in
English. After Iqbal and Ilham finished, Mr.Aji told the students that “bakpao”
in English is “Chinese bun”.
All groups have been presented their story about
Malam Satu Suro, but the story has not reached its ending. So there are some
groups who would did the presentation again. It included Ilham and Iqbal’s
group. In their second turn, they told the story about a dangdut singer, Bokir,
who met Pretty’s kidnapper when he chased by Sundel Bolong. Their presentation
is not good as their presentation before, because Iqbal doesn’t really remember
the story.
After the presentation done, Mr. Aji gave review about
his students’s activities. Mr Aji told that PTI Offering D is still the best
class in retelling of Malam Satu Suro movie. The students were proud and gave
applause to Mr.Aji’s statement. At the end of the lesson, Mr Aji also didn’t
forget to remind the students to complete their task about interviewing the
tourist, because next week that task would be collected.
